Message
from the Executive Director Over the past two years, the Carpenter's Helper has been fortunate to develop positive relationships with individuals and various organizations. I do not take your willingness to invest in TCH lightly, and we want to be as accountable as possible to you. One way of reaching this level of accountability is by developing new avenues of communication. To help us achieve this, we have started publishing a quarterly e-newsletter for the "Friends of Carpenter's Helper" to let you know about some of the projects in which we have been privileged to participate. This update only reflects a fraction of the excitement experienced in the process of getting families back into a safe and secure home. I wish that you could walk with me on every one of our projects and see the emotions of the families we have been able to help.
The year ahead will see many new projects started and completed-- and hopefully more friends added to our list. I would encourage you to be a part of TCH's mission. There are many ways to invest other than financially; you do not have to be a trained professional to be a part of the big picture of our mission.
I
would like to thank all of you who have contributed
to accomplishments so far.
We could NOT have done it without you. Many of you have invested
money, time, and your skills in
order to help us make a mark. For
that I thank you! There is still so
much to be done. I encourage you to continue
supporting TCH's mission by acting as link in
the chain to rehabilitate
substandard housing in our area...
one family at a time. Thomas E. Smith Project 07-028: This project’s anonymous sponsor donated to TCH as a Christmas gift to his wife, who drives by this home each day. This project also marks the beginning of TCH’s partnership with Adopt-a-Home. To qualify for project partnerships, plans must be pre-approved and there is a 30-90 day waiting period. Project 07-028 was a total renovation including the roof, outside doors, a hot water heater (The previous one had been broken for years.), insulation, windows, sheetrock, and installing central heat and air. Oak Grove Heating & Air provided a generous discount on materials and expert consultation to TCH during this project. The board sends their thanks to Oak Grove Heating & Air for their support.
Project 08-01: This resident was about to be evicted because they still had a blue tarp on their roof. The Salvation Army donated materials and Temple Baptist donated funds to cover the labor. This project took about two weeks. TCH installed a new roof and addressed interior needs. Project 08-02: Although this project is outside TCH’s usual area, the president approved repair work in Marion County because this widow’s needs are exactly the kind which it is our mission to address. The resident’s church raised money to address housing needs, but needed a group willing to perform the repairs. Foxworth Baptist donated $2,000 towards the completion of this project. TCH made roof and ceiling repairs. During this time Salvation Army awarded TCH a $4,000 grant for tools.
